Buffy Phyne, Emcee Extraordinaire

Bethany “Buffy” Phyne is a generous SNSI board member, an amazing talent and a lover of animals. Put all those things together, and what do you get? Someone who is willing to help other animal welfare groups emcee their events (based on her availability).

Buffy has been a fabulous advocate for animals during her five-year volunteer stint as Lead Pet Reporter for Pet Pals TV. She has been a great celebrity talent for SNSI fundraising events, too. Not only does she have a master’s degree in Radio/TV/Film, but she is a proud mom to beautiful rescued pups, Chloe, Cooper, Teddy and Tripp and has fostered for 15 years.

If you are looking for someone to emcee your next animal welfare event, check with Buffy at bethanyphyne@gmail.com or call her at 317-431-1793!

Haunted Hair Ball

Mark your calendars now for Saturday, October 27, when SNSI will host the Haunted Hair Ball at the Rathskeller in downtown Indianapolis! Hair Ball is SNSI’s annual fundraising party. Save the date and start planning your fun and crazy costumes!

Girl Scouts Address Spay-Neuter

Girl Scout Troop 1805 loves animals! To help save lives, the girls studied the issue of spay-neuter and created an educational video.  SNSI wanted to meet these amazing girls, so we attended a troop meeting.

We couldn’t be happier that young people are helping animals in such an important way. With engaged youth becoming the next generation of advocates, Indiana is certain to reach and sustain zero-kill status.

Communities Pass Animal Welfare Laws

Photo: Maleah Stringer, Executive Director of Animal Protection League, is one of the advocates for tougher animal welfare laws.

In Indiana, more communities are passing local ordinances to protect the welfare of our furry friends. Most recently, the Anderson City Council passed a comprehensive law that addresses four topics: tethering dogs for 24 hours at a time; proper animal shelters; placing dogs in heated areas when temperatures drop below 20 degrees; and addressing dog fighting.

How can you help animals in your own community? Check out your local ordinances and educate local elected officials about how your laws could be strengthened to ensure that animals are not left to suffer in inhumane conditions.

To help Anderson’s animals, SNSI is providing five extra certificates per month for the remainder of the year. When you purchase the pet friendly license plate, $25 comes to SNSI for spay-neuter surgeries. These funds, along with your donations, provide life-saving programs for Indiana’s animals.

New Vets Join SNSI Network

SNSI is pleased to welcome two new vets to our growing vet network.

We simply couldn’t do what we do without our shared-mission vets across the state. Consider one of SNSI’s vet partners when you are looking for care for your pet.

The SNSI Family mourns with our friends at the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust for the loss of founding Trustee Nancy M. Russell, who passed away last month in Arizona. Nancy was a longtime friend of Nina Pulliam, and upon Nina’s death in 1997, Nancy became a founding trustee for the Trust. She, along with her husband and Nina’s niece, formed the foundation and shaped it from her deep understanding of who Nina was and about which causes she was most passionate. Nancy was particularly proud of her role in helping develop the Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholars program, which helps individuals who have endured significant adversity pursue a college education.
